Yoghurt consumed in over three-quarter of households
According to data from the ConsumerScan of GfK Hungária, 8 out of 10 Hungarian households bought yoghurt in 2007. Though total sales grew somewhat as a result of the 9 per cent rise in average price, the total quantity sold dropped compared to 2006. The increase in the sales of unflavoured yoghurts was clearly the result of the above average price rise (15 per cent). The price of fruit yoghurts rose by 7 per cent which compensated the drop in the quantity sold. The market share of private labels shows dynamic growth over the past two years. While the overall sales of branded yoghurts dropped in 2007, that of unflavoured yoghurt remained unchanged. Fruit yoghurt is generally purchased by larger households (3-4 people), while small households are over-represented in the purchases of unflavoured yoghurt.
