Domestic organic farming bases its future on a decade of growth
Hungary’s goal is to double the size of domestic organic farming areas by 2027, thus reaching a 10 percent organic area ratio – highlighted Dr. Anikó Juhász, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, in his opening speech at the 2023 Ecological Farming – Sectoral Conference at the 2023 Ecological Farming – Sectoral Conference. In university.
Anikó Juhász emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture treats the preservation of biological diversity and, in this context, the support of organic farming as a matter of utmost importance. With its help, the use of extremely dangerous plant protection agents and fertilizers can be reduced, and at the same time it can be ensured that the soil does not lose its productivity. He said that in recent years, as in other countries of the world, the size of the controlled area under organic cultivation and the number of farms engaged in organic farming have increased significantly in Hungary.
The deputy state secretary emphasized that the support policy also contributes to the objectives, among other things
Thus, after the current measure, the Ministry of Agriculture will launch a new 5-year program from 2025 based on the Strategic Plan. The commitment to sustainability goals is shown by the fact that the subsidy amounts increased by an average of 74 percent from 2022. He reported that the national action plan aimed at domestic organic farming pays special attention to the system-level coordination of support tools, the increase in domestic demand and supply, as well as the provision of training conditions for education, the network of consultants and experts, and the expansion of the state-of-the-art inspection and certification system and for the construction and financing of the innovation network. He mentioned that the actors of the Hungarian agricultural and food sector are important suppliers and exporters of the organic products market, but the aim of the action plan is to appear in the entire foreign trade, which is not an easy task after the years of the crisis, but requires progress. The goal of the European Union member states, including Hungary, was to renew the Common Agricultural Policy so that the new CAP would set the direction for the transition, as a result of which European agriculture would become sustainable, responsive and modern.
