The National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) has announced its tender again this year, which provides non-refundable support of up to 7.5 million forints to domestic enterprises, research institutions and private individuals for the legal protection of their intellectual creations. The 500 million forint budget of the current call can cover, in addition to the official fees related to domestic and international protection, the costs of more significant industrial property protection consultancy or related attorney services – the National Research, Development and Innovation Office and the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office announced in a joint statement on Friday.

The announcement highlighted that the NKFI Office has been supporting this opportunity for years with targeted applications, so that as wide a group as possible – even the smallest micro-enterprise or an individual inventor – can take advantage of this opportunity, obtaining protection for their newly developed products, technologies or brands at the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPHO).

It was emphasized that the main goal of the Neumann János Program is to increase the patent activity of domestic enterprises and universities. A significant result is that the number of patent applications increased by 35 percent last year on an annual basis. The patent activity of universities has increased significantly, with a total of 143 applications filed by higher education institutions last year, which is a twofold increase on an annual basis and a sevenfold increase compared to the value 5 years ago.

Szabolcs Farkas, President of the HIPHO, explained in the announcement that the existence of an intellectual property protection strategy and its utilization are important cornerstones of the success of domestic innovation. They support and motivate domestic actors with awareness-raising, education and a targeted discount system to increase their industrial property protection activity.

This application provides a unique opportunity to finance the costs incurred at the most important decision points of domestic and international protection, thus ultimately facilitating the acquisition of domestic, European and international industrial property protection. In international PCT patent applications, both the Visegrád Patent Institute and the European Patent Office will be designated as international searching authorities – added the President of the SZTNH.
