Domestic consumers generally trust domestic food industry products
Domestic consumers generally trust domestic food industry products, which they consider to be of good quality – declared Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the 10th Agóra conference in Tata on Thursday.
The deputy state secretary said that the current situation of the Hungarian food market depends on a number of factors that directly influence consumer needs and the operation of market players. He highlighted that both employment and sales revenue of the food industry increased, the latter exceeding HUF 6,500 billion.
Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai drew attention to the fact that the sector has a dual structure, where almost 4,000 companies operate, and only 300-400 companies account for more than 90 percent of employment and exports. The government tries to promote the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector through various support systems and calls for tenders.
The deputy state secretary also touched on the fact that the role of food chains has increased in value, especially in light of the changes caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, where the adaptation of the retail sector, the change in product selection and price sensitivity determined the dynamics of the market. Changes in domestic and international market conditions must continue to be closely monitored so that the industry can continue to function sustainably in the future.
