Fish farmers do not plan to raise prices for this Christmas season either

The statement quotes István Németh, president of the Hungarian Aquaculture and Fisheries Professional Association (Mahal), as saying that the price of live carp will be between 1,800-2,200 forints per kilogram, while sliced carp will cost 3,500-4,000 forints. Traders will ask for around 4,000 forints for African catfish fillets, while the price of filleted gray catfish per kilo may be between 8,000-9,000 forints this season. Per capita fish consumption remains very low in international comparison, at 6.5-7 kilograms, compared to the European Union’s annual average of 22 kilograms.
The situation of producers is also made more difficult by the fact that more than a third of the subdued domestic consumption is concentrated at the very end of the year
In Hungary, pond farms operate on more than 25 thousand hectares of water area. The situation of domestic fish farmers was worsened this year primarily by the drought raging in the second half of the summer, which primarily manifested itself in water supply problems and deterioration of water quality. In addition to the deterioration of quality, the high water temperature also accelerated the metabolism of the fish, which required additional feed, while body weight gain fell short of average.
