GVH is also investigating the pricing practice revealed by NGM
The Economic Competition Authority (GVH) will examine the pricing practice revealed and indicated by the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) as part of a complaint procedure, the supporting evidence and will take the necessary measures, the competition authority told MTI on Wednesday.
The GVH emphasized that it is committed to taking firm action against companies engaging in unfair commercial practices in close cooperation with the NGM, which carries out the professional management of consumer protection, and the consumer protection authorities.
The protection of Hungarian families is extremely important to the GVH. According to the consensus of experts, the national competition authority’s competition-enhancing interventions, including the operation of the online price monitoring system, contributed greatly to the reduction of food inflation and the breaking down of inflation. The GVH carried out several accelerated sectoral investigations in the field of food trade last year, highlighting the factors that increase inflation, and with its pro-competitive proposals it contributed to the protection of Hungarian families and pensioners, the competition office wrote in its announcement.
In its statement on Wednesday, the NGM pointed out that the food price caps, the mandatory promotions, and the online price monitoring system proved to be effective in breaking the sanctioned inflation, but at the same time, after the introduction of the mandatory promotions, the commercial chains implemented simultaneous and significant price increases for basic products. The ministry also announced that it will take decisive measures against all this and will initiate a competition law investigation of GVH.
