Geothermal energy is the future: the P&G factory in Czömör strives to utilize thermal water
The initial studies and surveys found thermal water under the Procter & Gamble plant in Csömör, so thanks to the company’s fortunate geographical conditions, it started long-term planning in cooperation with the Municipality of Csömör to be able to replace its entire natural gas consumption with the use of geothermal energy.
Procter & Gamble has been present in Hungary for more than 30 years, and during this time their product range has grown from 5 brands to 30 brand families in 10 different categories. Their global sustainability efforts were among the first to be implemented in their domestic plants, both of their domestic factories operate with zero waste generation, use energy from 100% renewable energy sources, and fully recycle and recycle the water used. The Csömör factory established a uniquely designed water purification plant, the complexity of which means the circulation of 270,000 m3 of water per year, which is equivalent to the annual water consumption of a settlement the size of Mogyoród. Plastics selectively collected at the plant (e.g. strapping tape, bags, plastic bottles) are first made into granules, then other recyclable items (e.g. garden furniture, household appliances), cardboard boxes are made from paper waste (e.g. coils, cardboard, office waste), the production and cement is made from scrap waste.
