Farmer-friendly agriculture is the goal of the Hungarian EU presidency
The Hungarian EU presidency is focusing on how EU agriculture can be farmer-friendly and farmer-centered, the Minister of Agriculture said on Tuesday in Budapest, before the informal meeting of the agriculture and fisheries ministers of the EU member states.
According to István Nagy, it is necessary to ensure that EU agriculture is competitive, crisis-proof, sustainable and knowledge-based. The head of the ministry also trusts that the agriculture ministers of the member states can show direction to the European Commission and effectively represent the principles and aspects set as the goal.
The Minister of Agriculture stated that the participants of Tuesday’s meeting are looking for answers to several questions
A solution must be found to simplify the payments of the common agricultural policy, the issues of the green transition and how to make EU agriculture more sustainable. István Nagy also urged the simplification of crisis management measures so that all member states can quickly and flexibly compensate farmers for the damages caused by climate change.
