A third of young people would like to leave their parents’ house as soon as possible

Four out of ten young people still live with their parents, and the majority of them are postponing moving to an independent residential property – this is what the K&H Youth Index, which also examined the moving intentions of 19-29 year-olds, found. At the same time, 33 percent of young people with a mother-in-law hotel would move on as soon as possible. It also turned out that the intention to buy a home in this age group has sunk to its lowest point.

Young people are very divided when it comes to moving to an independent residential property and creating their own life, according to the K&H Youth Index, which also assessed the future plans of 19-29 year-olds in the last quarter of last year.

The majority of those living at home will stay for now

Four out of ten young people surveyed – 42 percent – ​​currently live with their parents. 59 percent of the group concerned are planning to move at some point in the future, but this is not a priority at the moment. In addition, 8 percent do not consider this option at all.

At the same time, 33 percent said they would leave the mom hotel as soon as possible. Their rate increased from 27 percent in the third quarter of last year and is also an increase compared to the 26 percent recorded at the end of 2023. In the history of the survey since the end of 2012, 33 percent is considered a relatively high value. Looking at the past five years, a higher rate was recorded at the beginning and end of 2021, as well as in the last quarter of 2022, during which 38-44 percent said they would move out of their parents’ home as soon as possible.

According to the survey, in the last quarter of last year, 30 percent of young people who were urging to leave would move into their own apartment, and 51 percent envisioned their near future in a rented apartment. In addition, 10 percent would move in with their partner, and 6 percent would target a family member’s property.
