The virus of African swine fever (ASF) has been identified in domestic pigs by the Romanian veterinary and food safety authorities in the villages of Ceatalchio and Salceni, near the border with Ukraine, in the Danube Delta – the Agerpres news agency said on Monday.

The authorities were alerted on Friday after several pigs died in four farms. Two laboratories have detected ASF virus in the dead animals during the weekend, so all pigs were slaughtered in the four farms and the livestock is monitored in a ten-kilometer radius. (MTI, Baranyi László)
