DODO and Rossmann are testing drones for home delivery
Data-driven logistics company DODO and Rossmann have launched a unique pilot project, for the home delivery of products ordered in the drugstore chain’s online shop. The first test flight departed from the Rossmann store in the Savoya Park shopping centre, in the 11th district of Budapest, and its destination was in the 3rd district. This time the drone didn’t carry a parcel yet. It covered the 15km distance in just 14 minutes, flying at 50km/h on average, at a height between 20 and 50 metres.
Dr Károly Sáfár, DODO’s CEO in Hungary: “It is such a pleasure to cooperate with an open and target-oriented partner such as Rossmann. I hope that following the test flights we can start actual product delivery using drones, as soon as the regulations make it possible.” Ádám Fürjes, Rossmann Magyarország Kft.’s head of online marketing: “I believe that home delivery by drones can be an important step forward in e-commerce, and in offering better service to consumers. DODO is the perfect partner for realising this project.”
In the next phase of the pilot project the drone will already carry a parcel. For DODO it has always been essential to operate with sustainability considerations in mind. Drone delivery can contribute to reducing the ecological footprint of home delivery. Smart logistics service provider DODO is present in the markets of the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and Slovakia too. (x)
