DM prepared a sustainability report for the first time
For the first time, dm has produced a joint sustainability report for all 14 countries of the group. With the publication of the report, dm has committed to its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2045. The focus is on measures to reduce greenhouse gases along the entire value chain, as well as innovative approaches such as CO₂ recycling and environmentally friendly packaging.
On June 3, dm’s sustainability report for the 2023/24 financial year was published in Hungary. For the first time, the report summarizes the sustainability-related activities of all 14 countries of the dm group, with which the dm business community wants to contribute to creating a more positive future, also covering social, environmental and corporate governance aspects.
“The cross-border project team was driven by the idea of not only perceiving reporting as a bureaucratic task, but also filling it with real content: making the processes transparent helps to identify key areas of action and to implement targeted measures. In addition, the report also makes visible how many valuable and unique projects are currently underway in the dm countries. This fills us with pride and encourages us to take further action,” emphasized Gertrud Csoknyainé Horváth and András Görgey, Managing Directors of dm-Hungary.
dm has set a target of net zero emissions by 2045
In 2023, the dm group obtained 67 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources, which is six percent higher than the previous year. The majority of greenhouse gas emissions occur in the upstream and downstream value chains, for example during the production of dm-branded products. dm works with its partners to jointly identify reduction opportunities and implement effective measures. In its own operations, dm already uses photovoltaic energy at 78 locations internationally in some of its dm stores, in some of its office buildings and in its warehouses. Pilot projects are also being carried out in relation to sustainable transport planning and means of transport, and the use of hydrogen and electric trucks is also being investigated.
In Hungary, dm has meanwhile taken another step towards achieving its sustainability goals, obtaining 30 percent of its electricity needs from the most efficient and modern domestic solar park, the Sihalm power plant, from March 2025.
The dm group aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2045. This company-wide goal is independent of country-specific legal differences. DM believes that it is on the right track by following its four-step environmental strategy. Its elements are: life cycle analysis, avoiding and reducing negative impacts, and creating environmental value.
