The processing sales price of cut pork increased by 25 percent
According to KSH data, Hungary’s live pig exports decreased by 5.5 percent (13.7 thousand tons) in January-June 2023 compared to the January-June 2022 amount.
The import of live pigs increased by 7.5 percent to 35.6 thousand tons in the observed period. The quantity of pork sold on the international market decreased by 10 percent (70,000 tons), while its value increased by 17 percent during the observed period. The volume of pork imports fell by almost 12 percent (69 thousand tons), while the value was 29 percent higher.
The price of pork has increased significantly
According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was HUF 925/kilogram of carcass hot weight in August 2023, which represented a 21 percent increase compared to the average price a year earlier. The processing sales price of cut pork (loin, ribs, thigh) was 25 percent higher in the same comparison. According to KSH data, the consumer price of short loin increased by 17 percent and pork leg by 20 percent at the same time.
