Sz. Variáns from Debrecen is at the forefront of packaging technology
2024 was an extremely eventful and professionally successful year for Sz.Variánts, as János Szakál, the company’s managing owner, was nominated for the Ernst & Young “Businessman of the Year” award. In addition, the company received several prestigious awards last year, including the Store Insider award, which further enriched Sz.Variánts’ excellent results. The Debrecen-based family business, which is 30 years old in 2024 and is one of Hungary’s leading packaging technology companies, received the Hungaropack Grand Prize for the tenth time, the highest domestic recognition for packaging material manufacturers.
The award, which looks back on nearly 60 years of history, was presented to the Debrecen manufactory this time for packaging that strengthens the luxury segment of a confectionery product. The company continues to achieve outstanding results in the domestic and international markets with its innovative solutions and environmentally conscious approaches, while at the forefront of combining tradition and modern technology, contributing to increasing the international awareness of the Hungarian packaging technology industry. The family business produces tens of millions of boxes annually, 80% of which meet the needs of the domestic market, while 20% are for export. 10% of the fabulous products manufactured for foreign markets are delivered to Slovakia, 5% to Romania, 3% to Austria, and 2% to Germany. In addition, the company produces impressive packaging for well-known brands as a supplier, so the imprints of Debrecen quality can be seen from Japan to Dubai to America. In this way, the company is continuously strengthening its global presence, expanding its international influence, and conquering new markets around the world. In 2024, Sz.Variáns was able to achieve a 23% increase in turnover compared to the previous year, which can be considered particularly good considering the market conditions.
On the road to success for the third decade
Sz. Variáns celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024, on which occasion the company received numerous awards and attention. In addition to the anniversary, it is also a source of pride that the managing owner of the company, János Szakál, was among the nearly 40 nominees for the Ernst & Young “Businessman of the Year” award.
The Hungaropack Award and the 10th victory of Sz.Variáns
The Hungaropack Award is Hungary’s most prestigious award, which annually rewards the most innovative and excellent packaging solutions, and also provides the winners with the opportunity to appear on international markets. The entries are evaluated anonymously by an independent professional committee, which examines approximately 100 works per year. During the award ceremony, 4-5 products deserve recognition, while the other entrants may receive other awards. The Hungaropack Award has become a symbol of excellence and innovation over the decades and continues to play a prominent role in the success of the Hungarian packaging industry and its international recognition. The application is submitted at the beginning of summer each year, so the company continuously considers throughout the year which of its products meet the strict requirements of the packaging competition.
