15,000 tons of disposable plastic per year – food containers, beverage glasses, bags – must be replaced with other, more environmentally friendly products in Hungary based on the government decree in force from 1 July, the National Association of Packaging and Material Handling (CSAOSZ) informed MTI.

Two years ago, when it became certain that Hungary would have to transpose the EU ban on certain disposable plastics into its legal system this year, the volume of the affected products was still below 10,000 tons per year, according to the association. This rose to 15,000 tons last year due to a significant increase in the number of takeaway food cans, drink glasses and carrying bags due to the coronavirus pandemic, the CSAOSZ pointed out. (MTI)
