The packaging should tell you if the food can be consumed
Due to the expiration date on the packages, we do not always know whether the packaged food is still edible – origo wrote. Meals can often last for days or even weeks longer than the stated expiration date. The IndieBio laboratory in San Francisco has therefore developed packaging that informs us whether the food it contains is still usable -concludes Fast Company.
Americans throw away 40 percent of their food because of its expiration date.
The team at the California Biotechnology Company has over the past few months developed new bio-based packaging that can respond to environmental changes and make food safety issues more visible, including even compostable material. (origo)
