Coke Drops ‘Classic’ Tag From Branding
The change was part of “a broader plan and strategy to revitalize the brand.
Coca-Cola Co has announced that it will
no longer carry the word ‘Classic’ on packages of its flagship
cola in the US. The new packages are already on store shelves in some
regions, and are expected to be rolled out across the rest of country
by June.
The company had added the word to its brand name in July
1985, soon after introducing "New Coke". As the latter
brand is no longer in existence, the company said the differentiation
is no longer required. The move will see North American Coke packages
conform to the global standard, and comes as the company is rolling
out a new global marketing campaign.
