REWE Group has partnered with German organic farming association Bioland to expand its offering of certified organic products.

The initiative will provide customers with more high-quality organic options, including fruit, vegetables and dairy products, sourced from German and regional farms.

Bioland unites over 10,000 regional organic farms, producers, manufacturers and retailers in Germany and South Tyrol, with the goal of promoting environmental protection and the well-being of society.

The partnership with Bioland, which already supplies fresh products to REWE Group, will help to shorten supply chains and increase the availability of association-certified organic products in the retailer’s approximately 3,800 stores, ESM Magazine reports.

‘Important Milestone’

Daniel Kniel, managing director of full-range merchandise, REWE Group, said, “This collaboration is an important milestone for us on the path to even greater ecological responsibility, regionality, and animal welfare.

“We want to actively shape the future of agriculture and set new benchmarks for responsible practices in the food retail sector.”

The latest collaboration follows similar organic partnerships that REWE has taken with the association for organic farming, Naturland, as well as its membership in the Demeter organic association in Germany.

‘Long-Term Partnerships’

“A forward-looking agricultural and food sector lies in stable, long-term partnerships that promote organic farming, secure regional value creation, and offer consumers high-quality organic food from their local area,” added Jan Plagge, president of Bioland.

“With REWE, we have a partner at our side who shares these goals and wants to actively advance them with us.”

REWE Group has focused on organic products for over 30 years as a key part of its sustainability and product range strategy, and it offers its own private-label organic products.
