Weak Forint helped the sheep market too
The Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) continuously monitors and publishes world trends in poultry and meat products. Their last report reveals that the price of small-weight sheep, thanks to an increased demand around Christmas, increased in both Italy and Hungary. However, in Italy sheep prices decreased if compared with the same period a year earlier, while in Hungary the weakening of the Forint and smaller sheep supply resulted in increased prices. In December the production price of domestically bred slaughter pig augmented by 1 percent; the production price of slaughter cattle price soared by 13 percent. Until early December last year 10 percent more broiler chicken was purchased from breeders, but at a 2 percent lower live-weight price than a year before.
