Babits Winery’s Aszú won the top prize at the Szeged Wine Festival
Babits Winery’s 2019 6-puttonyos aszú won the top prize in the wine competition held at the Szeged Wine Festival, the award was presented on Monday, the gastronomic festival organizer Szegedi Városkép és Piac Kft. informed MTI.
The excellent dessert wine was chosen as the best of the 154 entries, thus becoming the Szeged City Wine, by the professional jury, whose work was supervised by Sarolta Bárdos, the founder of Tokaj-Nobilis, who won the title of Winemaker of Winemakers last year. The wines were evaluated based on a 100-point system, and the wine with the highest score received the city’s recognition.
The title of best red wine was awarded to Vinatus Vineyard and Winery’s 2018 Cabernet Franc. The judges chose the 2023 Diófás Rajnai Rizling from Gedeon Estate as the best white wine, and the 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon rosé from Csanádi Szőlőbirtok as the best rosé.
Sparkling wines and champagnes were also evaluated in a separate category, of which the 2023 Blanc de Noir from Szentpéteri Borpince was the most popular with the judges. The experts chose the 2017 5-puttonyos Tokaji Aszú from Tolcsva-Bor Kft. as the best dessert wine. The social jury recognized the sweet wine specialty selected by the Holdvölgy 2011 Signature estate.
This year, 160 winemakers await tens of thousands of visitors at the Szeged Wine Festival, the country’s largest wine festival. In addition to the wines, classical, pop and jazz concerts will entertain the audience under the shady plane trees of Széchenyi Square until Sunday.
