The price of stuffed peppers has increased by 9 percent
According to data from the Central Statistical Office, 90.61 thousand tons of peppers were harvested in Hungary from 1.28 thousand hectares in 2023. The export volume of green peppers decreased to 13.5 thousand tons (-28 percent), and its export value to 19.69 million euros (-34 percent) in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. The import volume increased to 9.32 thousand tons (+34 percent), and its value to 14.75 million euros (+37 percent) in the same period.

The foreign trade surplus of green peppers fell to 4.9 million euros from 19.1 million euros a year earlier. Exports to the largest export market for fresh green peppers, Germany, decreased by 10 percent to 8.48 thousand tons, Slovakia by 43 percent to 1.78 thousand tons, and the Czech Republic by 56 percent to 831.8 tons in the first nine months of the year. The largest amount of peppers, 3.38 thousand tons (+97 percent), came from Spain, followed by Egypt (+33 percent, 3.35 thousand tons) and Turkey (–49 percent, 517.1 tons).

The producer price of domestic, kilogram-sized, stuffed, smaller (30–70 mm) sweet peppers increased by 9 percent to 797 forints/kilogram, and the price of larger (70 mm+) peppers increased by 7 percent to 1,000 forints/kilogram between 1 and 49 January 2024. week compared to the average price of the same period of the previous year. Imported sweet peppers for stuffing arrived until March, then appeared again in the offer from the 45th week at an average price of 1000 forints/kilogram. On the Budapest Wholesale Market, the producer price of domestic bell peppers increased by 1 percent to 1296 forints/kilogram in the 14th–48th week of 2024 compared to the average price of the same period of the previous year. Imported (mainly from Spain) bell peppers were on offer until the end of May, then appeared again in the 33rd week at an average price of 1200 forints/kilogram.
