73 inspection areas and many new features in the NKFH’s 2026 inspection program
The Ministry of National Economy (NGM) and the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) presented the NKFH’s 2026 Inspection and Inspection Program (EVP) at a press conference. The announced 73 inspection areas include service inspection, trade, product safety, laboratory and food safety inspections.
The measures to strengthen domestic consumer protection were discussed by Bence Gerlaki, State Secretary for Tax Affairs, Consumer Protection and Trade, Dr. Krisztina Csákiné, Deputy State Secretary for Consumer Protection and Trade, and Dr. Lilla Német-Weingartner, President of the NKFH, reported.
In addition to the consumer protection law amendment package submitted to the Parliament this week and the previously announced 7-point consumer protection action plan, the focus of the press conference was the NKFH’s 2026 Inspection and Testing Program (EVP). While this year’s inspection program includes 39, next year’s EVP already includes a total of 73 inspection areas, of which 16 are government-prioritized inspections, 27 basic inspections, as well as 17 seasonal and 13 innovative inspections.
The 73 inspection areas include service inspection, commercial, product safety, laboratory and food safety inspections. The EVP includes, among other things, innovations such as the inspection of real estate agents’ advertising practices and the GTC of retirement homes, the inspection of standby consumption of electrical household appliances, or the display of promotional prices used at the start of school. However, the authority will also pay special attention to compliance with the rules of margin reduction and the price monitoring system next year, and will continue to inspect the most popular foods and catering establishments in an increased manner from a food safety and hygiene perspective.
The President of the NKFH, dr. Lilla Német-Weingartner said at the press conference that “never before has such a broad consumer protection and food safety inspection program been created. The 73 inspection areas include the inspection of all regulations that may arise in the relationship between consumers and businesses. However, the primary goal of our authority is not to impose fines; we work to ensure that consumer rights are enforced even more effectively by achieving law-abiding behavior. In the event of serious or repeated violations of the law, we will of course take the necessary measures immediately.” The Ministry of Agriculture, the National Food and Drug Safety Agency and the government agencies under its professional management are committed to protecting consumer rights in 2026 as well, and will therefore take decisive action in the event of their violation.
