The import of fresh eggs increased by 71 percent
Based on data from the European Commission, EU (EU27) egg and egg product imports increased by 68 percent to 9,000 tons in January 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year. 82 percent of imports came from Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

The community’s egg and egg product exports increased by 30 percent to 29,000 tons in the first month of 2024 compared to January 2023. According to data from the European Commission, the packing point price of table eggs in the EU was 227 euros/100 kilograms in the first fourteen weeks of 2024, 11 percent below the value of the same period of the previous year.
Egg exports increased
Based on KSH data, Hungary bought 2.6 thousand tons of shell eggs (+14 percent) from the international market in the first month of 2024, within which it delivered 71 percent more, 1.6 thousand tons of fresh eggs. The export of shell eggs increased by 70 percent to 1.5 thousand tons, while the export of fresh eggs decreased by 30 percent to 117 tons in January 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year. According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from cage keeping in Hungary was HUF 55.13/piece in the first fifteen weeks of 2024, which was 16.8 percent lower than the average price for the same period of 2023.
