SPAR spent 3.6 billion forints on the construction of a new supermarket in Szentendre
The country’s newest SPAR store was completed in Szentendre, at the HÉV terminal, with approximately 3.6 billion forints of its own funds. During the almost one-year investment, the company built a modern, energy-conscious, 4,389-square-meter store, a 54-space parking garage, and a 47-space open-air parking lot in the city’s busy transportation hub. In addition, the development also beautified the environment of the supermarket, which employs 42 commercial professionals, in line with the long-term urban rehabilitation development concept of the Szentendre local government.
“As part of our development program, we will continue to open new stores and modernize our existing stores this year. We are very pleased that one of the most important investments of 2025 was realized right here, in Szentendre, a beautiful town known for its cultural and tourist attractions. Our store, built with 3.6 billion forints from our own resources in an important transport hub of the city, does not only mean the construction of a modern, energy-efficient supermarket and parking lots, but also the renovation of the store’s surroundings and, with them, an extremely frequented point in Szentendre within the framework of the rehabilitation of the area – based on proposals agreed with the municipality. In the immediate vicinity of the new store – in cooperation with the city – a promenade was built towards the HÉV terminal station, green areas were renewed, and a park was also established, where a community space equipped with benches and hopefully many experiences await visitors. We are very proud that the first, groundbreaking project of the municipality’s long-term urban rehabilitation development concept “In part, SPAR could take on such an important role and contribute to improving the quality of life of the people living here,” said Gabriella Heiszler, President and CEO of SPAR Hungary, at the handover of the investment in Szentendre.
“We welcome the SPAR store now opening in Szentendre with the same deep joy as we received the news of the dramatic fire years ago. For the people of Szentendre and those living in the city’s catchment area, the SPAR store next to the HÉV station has always meant more than just a store; due to its central location, it has been – and will continue to be – an important point in many of their everyday lives. It is a joy to see the beautiful building and the tidy environment, and it is good to know that the construction was carried out according to the criteria of energy awareness throughout! It is also important to highlight that new jobs were created right from the start, since one of the most important goals of the Government is job creation. I thank all the professionals involved in the planning and construction for their dedicated work and cooperation! I wish the people working here a good job – and I wish the customers that they can always find the products they want for their families and loved ones here”
– said Dr. Eszter Vitályos, State Secretary for Government Communications.
