The number of registered job seekers decreased by 3,000 in February
According to data from the National Employment Service, in February 2025, only 232,348 people were unemployed, which is a decrease of more than 3,000 people compared to the same period of the previous year. Taking into account the data, the number of registered job seekers in February has not been so low since the change of regime – Sándor Czomba, State Secretary for Employment Policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), drew attention in his statement on Wednesday.
He highlighted that high employment is a stable pillar of the Hungarian economy, and thanks to the effective measures of the government, 1 million more people are working today compared to 2010, while the number of registered job seekers is at a historic low.
The further recovery of the labor market is indicated by the fact that the economic activity of the 15-64 age group is continuously increasing and the desire of people of retirement age to work is also increasing
– added the State Secretary.
He reminded that the government has launched programs to increase activity in order to mobilize the domestic labor market reserve of about 300 thousand people.
The EU-funded programs provide wage subsidies, housing and travel reimbursements, which have helped about 30 thousand job seekers find employment.
Sándor Czomba emphasized that the government’s goal is to allow those who want and can work to work. The “From Work to Work” program contributes to this, which helps laid-off workers get back to work with a budget of 1.5 billion forints, enabling those who have recently lost their jobs not to have to spend a single day without work.
Within the framework of the “Digital Development Program”, the government is supporting the increase in the competitiveness of domestic SMEs and the development of their digital infrastructure with a total of 2 billion forints.
