Table eggs rose by 30 percent in the first half of the year

According to European Commission data, the EU (EU27) was a net exporter of eggs and egg products in the first three months of 2025. Although imports increased by 52 percent to 40 thousand tonnes compared to the same period of the previous year, exports were significantly higher, at 98 thousand tonnes (+5 percent).

The EU’s largest target countries remained the United Kingdom, Japan and Switzerland. According to European Commission data, the packing house price of table eggs in the EU was 261 euros/100 kilograms in the first twenty-eight weeks of 2025, an increase of 20.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. According to data from the Central Statistical Office, Hungary purchased 8.1 thousand tons of shell eggs from the international market in the first five months of 2025 (–34 percent compared to the same period of the previous year), of which 19 percent less, 6.7 thousand tons of fresh eggs, were imported.

The export of shell eggs decreased by almost 25 percent to 4.5 thousand tons

Of this, the export of fresh eggs amounted to 841 tons (+58 percent) between January and May 2025. According to data from AKI PÁIR, the packing house price of caged table eggs (M+L) in Hungary was 65.30 forints/piece in the first twenty-eight weeks of 2025, which exceeded the average price of the same period in 2024 by 30.1 percent. The packing house price of M size class boxed eggs increased by 27.2 percent to HUF 67.97/piece, and that of L size class boxed eggs increased by 25.2 percent to HUF 78.33/piece. The packing house price of M trayed eggs increased by 32.4 percent to HUF 59.40/piece, and that of L trayed eggs increased by 35.5 percent to HUF 64.89/piece. The packing house price of deep-litter table eggs (M+L) was HUF 73.71/piece in the first twenty-eight weeks of 2025, which is 26.0 percent higher than the average price for the same period in 2024.
