István Nagy said: developments and investments are starting one after another, which mean jobs, a secure livelihood and a future in the Hungarian countryside. “Farmers know exactly that we have not had an easy time in recent years: there have been epidemics, there has been drought, Brussels’s flawed agricultural policy, the war and the energy crisis also significantly complicate operations, but thanks to the consistent construction of the past 15 years, Hungarian agriculture has stood its ground, and today we can talk about tangible results” – the Minister emphasized, adding that today Hungarian farmers have three times as many resources available for developments than ever before. He pointed out that in addition to the EU funds, 80 percent national co-financing is provided, which is unique in Europe, and thanks to this, the evaluation of applications is ongoing, and investments are starting one after another.
István Nagy emphasized that 2026 is truly the year of construction
Farms, livestock farms, stables are being built, the food industry is expanding, horticulture is developing; the processing industry is becoming more modern, vulnerability is decreasing, and Hungarian farmers are becoming more competitive both at home and abroad. In the recent period alone, more than 730 billion forints have been allocated for investments stimulating economic development, 800 food industry projects have received support, 1,100 livestock farms will be renovated, and around 2,100 horticultural developments can be launched, he listed. He noted that Hungary is capable of providing food for more than twice the population, 20 million people, which means that the work of Hungarian farmers is valuable and competitive, brings money to the country, and this money is returned to the Hungarian economy and the countryside. The Minister of Agriculture continued by saying that serious steps have also been taken in the fight against drought: irrigation investments worth 178 billion forints have been implemented, while the size of irrigated areas is constantly increasing, which serves crop security and a more predictable future for farmers.
István Nagy stated that more and more people are choosing environmentally friendly farming, and Hungary remains a GMO-free country
More than 19,600 applications were supported in the new Agri-Environmental Management Program, covering almost 1.6 million hectares of land; in the case of organic farming, 5,700 farmers, covering 375 thousand hectares of land. “This is good for the land, good for the consumer, and good for the farmers too,” he underlined. “We pay special attention to protecting Hungarian livestock and agriculture from epidemics, because security is the basis of everything!” – the minister emphasized. István Nagy concluded his video by saying: they will protect Hungarian land and the interests of Hungarian farmers against Brussels and its puppets. “We protest against any decision in Brussels that harms Hungarian agriculture. We protest against war plans, and also against taking farmers’ money and using it to finance the war or Ukraine. The government is doing everything it can to steer the processes towards peace, because without peace there is no development and no security in Hungarian agriculture either,” the Minister of Agriculture stated.
