2023: a year of negative records in company trends
2023 brought a rise in company closures and liquidations both globally and in Hungary. According to international experts, high interest rates and post-Covid state aid cuts have led to the disappearance of zombie companies.

According to OPTEN data, the number of companies in Hungary reduced by 12.2 thousand in 2023. Business closures that were delayed or postponed during the pandemic period mostly affected the first half of 2023. “It was not just delayed closures that dominated 2023. A strong factor was the impact of the changes in the small business tax scheme KATA in the second half of 2022, which led to a high number of liquidations in 2023”, said Csaba Alföldi, company information expert of OPTEN. //
