In 2009 cheap cheeses pulled the market
As GfK Hungária’s ConsumerScan revealed, we bought 12 percent more cheese in 2009 than a year earlier. The average household purchased 16.9 kg of cheese, largely due to an increase in the quantity bought per shopping occasion; however, buying frequency improved too. The average household bought cheese 38 times last year, 440 gram per occasion. Volume sales of the biggest cut and smoked cheeses
managed to grow the most. In terms of value, the market contracted a bit. Average price per kg fell by 10 percent – this was favourable for cheap cheeses like Trappista: sales were up at 12.3 kg last year (from 10.7 kg in 2008).
