We are not getting closer to the EU average since 2006
According to Eurostat; the per capita GDP in Hungary, was 64 percent of the EU average. Thus, since two years ago, the Hungarian convergence virtually stopped, because it was also 63 percent in 2006.
In contrast, regional competitors of Hungary continually moving towards the EU average between 2006 and 2008. Slovakia climbed from 63 percent, up to 72 percent in the period, the Czech Republic from 77 to 80, Poland from 52 to 56. So Slovakia preceded Hungary in 2007, Estonia in 2006 (they now hold 67 percent), and now Lithuania is here upon us – reports Világgazdaság Online.
