Workplace productivity can drop by as much as 20% in good weather
Colleagues leaving sooner, postponed decisions, delayed projects and halved work force due to vacations. Familiar? It’s all a phenomenon that businesses face during the summer season, and many people accept that it’s a natural part of the warmer months. Research, however, warns: on average, workplace productivity drops by a fifth in summer, projects run 13% longer, and colleagues are often inattentive and undermotivated, and this can cause significant losses for companies.
According to András Avidor, business development and networking expert, it is worth preparing a special strategy for this period, paying special attention to workforce management, and deploying marketing techniques that will allow us to beat the competition on our market even in the summer.
Seasonality undoubtedly plays a significant role in business, although it may affect different sectors differently. While summer is traditionally a prominent period in tourism or hospitality, in manufacturing or B2B services this often means a slowdown, and in many cases a planned shutdown.
“In this case, we find that companies see it as a kind of foundation that they operate at half steam for even 1-1.5 months in the summer, even though these weeks give us the opportunity to gain an advantage over our competitors in our own market. We can successfully motivate colleagues, train new employees, while building our brand or even strengthening our position by introducing a new product”
– says András Avidor, founder and head of BNI Hungary. In Hungary alone, the world’s largest business relationship-building organization has nearly 1,100 companies as members, and they are expected to host nearly 350 networking events during the summer, and this August they are also organizing a large-scale summer program combined with sailing.
