People in need received digital devices worth 16 million HUF
A boy from Zala with leukemia, a man from Szabolcs who is unable to move his limbs, and a little girl from Komárom-Esztergom county with diabetes. Only a few of those who can keep in touch with the outside world with the help of their own mobile phone, tablet, laptop or new software. A year ago, the Hungarian Red Cross and Yettel launched the Digital Catch-up Fund with a budget of HUF fifty million.
This year, the participants of the program used 32 percent of the amount planned for three years, so that a total of 16 million forints worth of funds were obtained, mainly for people living in children’s homes and temporary homes for families, as well as large families and single-parent families.
In December 2021, the Hungarian Red Cross and Yettel launched a program to support the digital catch-up of the socially disadvantaged and to improve participation in digitalization. As part of the Digital Catch-up Fund, you can apply for mobile phones, tablets, laptops and software at the humanitarian organization. In the program, 32 percent of the amount planned for three years was used in 2022, and ninety devices worth a total of HUF 16 million were handed over.
Almost half of the applicants requested a laptop, almost a third a tablet, more than 20 percent a mobile phone, some a push-button mobile device, and one family also got access to a printer.
