Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Invests €146m In French Bottling Facility
Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) is investing €146 million in its Grigny bottling facility, in France, significantly boosting production capacity and reducing carbon emissions.
A new, high-speed returnable glass bottle production line will increase annual output by 60%, to 175 million unit cases, ESM reported citing the company’s communication.
This production line, which, CCEP claims, is the fastest and most adaptable in France, will have an hourly output of 60,000 returnable glass bottles, handling the full range of bottle sizes (25cl, 33cl, and one litre) and accommodating both carbonated and aseptic beverages.
All returnable glass bottles – reusable up to 25 times – will now be made in France, enabling CCEP France to satisfy the increasing demand for sustainable, reusable packaging, and thus supporting the circular economy.
Aligned with the company’s 2040 net-zero emissions goal, Grigny will incorporate advanced energy solutions to boost productivity while significantly reducing its environmental footprint.
A Sustainable Facility
By summer 2025, connection to the local geothermal network will eliminate the need for gas boilers, cutting natural gas use by approximately 80%, the company noted.
In addition, 3,500 square metres of solar panels will generate renewable energy. Combined with other energy-saving measures – like heat recovery, efficient compressors, and cooling systems – these initiatives will lower the site’s emissions by 15%, or by about 700 tonnes of CO2 annually.
CCEP France met 60% of its energy requirements from renewable sources in 2024 and achieved a 7.6% reduction in manufacturing emissions, compared to 2019.
Upon completion in 2026, Grigny will be CCEP’s second-largest European production site, with eight production lines. The company has five production lines in France, and 95% of the drinks distributed by CCEP in France are produced in the country.
François Gay-Bellile, CEO of CCEP France, commented, “Grigny has become a true centre of excellence, combining industrial performance and local roots.
“Modernisation and decarbonisation sit at the heart of this transformation, which benefits our customers, consumers and employees.”
