The Food Bank collected 139 tons of durable food for the needy over the weekend
139 tons of food donations were collected for the needy during the weekend charity campaign of the Magyar Élélmiszerbank Egyesület, which took place in 213 Tesco, ALDI and Auchan stores in 104 settlements of the country. The amount donated is almost one and a half times the amount offered last year, so almost 28,000 needy people can receive aid packages in the coming weeks.
The final result of the food collection taking place on Friday and Saturday was overall 46 percent higher than last May’s collaboration: the reason for the increase is that thirteen more stores joined the campaign this year, and that price caps and quantity restrictions did not affect the range of products that could be offered – the association announced on Monday with MTI.
In addition to the counties of Budapest and Pest, the most donations were collected in the counties of Veszprém, Fejér, Győr-Moson-Sopron and Bács-Kiskun, they wrote in the announcement.
According to the information, this time again, customers donated the most flour, which accounted for almost a fifth of the offerings, and the most people donated pasta, rice, pasta sauce and canned food. Among the offerings, 13 tons of sweets and baby food were also received.
