The National Chamber of Agrarian Economy and the European Fresh Team program handed over 100 kilograms of vegetables and fruits
The National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and its program promoting the consumption of vegetables and fruits, the European Fresh Team, handed over 100 kilograms of vegetables and fruits, a packet of seeds and job booklets to this year’s Hero of Hungary’s Vegetables and Fruits, Csaba Petrilla, history-geography of the Gloriett Sports School Primary School his specialist teacher and the students of the school.
“The purpose of the Vegetable-Fruit Hero competition is to research and present such exemplary projects and dedicated people, such as the program and leader of the Gloriett Green Community, Csaba Petrilla,” said dr. Béla Mártonffy, president of the National Horticulture and Supply Department of the National Chamber of Agriculture. He added that it is a special pleasure to see that, in addition to the children, the school’s teachers and parents also actively participate in the care of the school garden. In this way, entire families can get to know the processes of the production of vegetables and fruits, their external and internal properties, and the positive effects of their consumption. This is very important, because the average daily fruit and vegetable intake in our country does not reach the minimum value of 40 dkg per day recommended by the World Health Organization, and it also falls short of the annual EU average, especially for the 6-18 age group and families with children. At the presentation, Béla Mártonffy drew the children’s attention to the fact that the immune system plays a huge role in maintaining health and avoiding diseases, and the optimal functioning of it can best be helped by regular consumption of vegetables and fruits. Vegetables and fruits are full of vitamins, minerals and fiber – and they are also very tasty.
In the sports school in the capital, with the involvement of the parents, a vegetable garden and an orchard were created
In it, children can master the garden processes, from planting and care to picking and using vegetables and fruits. The school garden and environmentally conscious education became one of the defining elements of the school’s life, which is why the Gloriett Green Community program was founded, whose dreamer and driving force is Csaba Petrilla, this year’s Fruit and Vegetable Hero. “The vegetable garden and the orchard are also a great opportunity for the children of the capital to discover different vegetables and fruits and their most important characteristics. The boys learn to dig, hoe, stake, i.e. the more difficult garden work, while the girls are more concerned with planting or learn about the storage and use of vegetables and fruits. Thanks to the gardens, our students can touch, smell and even taste the current curriculum in science classes: the vegetables and fruits they have grown themselves,” said the teacher, who emphasized that all this would not be possible without the cooperation of the school, colleagues and parents. yes.
