100 years – 100 ice creams

In 2025 Hajdúszoboszló hosted the Ice Cream of the Year competition, with a record number of entries and a bigger variety of flavours than ever before.

Held with the motto “100 years – 100 ice creams”, the contest attracted 100 entries – reflecting the diversity and creativity of Hungarian ice cream makers. Two groups of experts tasted the ice creams and then the combined jury selected the best ones.

“Ice Cream of the Year” and the gold medal in category “A” went to Dörgicsei Almond, made by Sándor Márton from Bagaméri Ice Cream Parlour in Balatonfüred.

A new concept was introduced for the judging process

The winner of the gluten-free category was Ágnes Böröczky-Asztalos from Margaréta Ice Cream Parlour in Balatonszemes: Salted Pistachio Sorbet with Blackcurrant and Blueberry. Sándor Márton also triumphed in this year’s special category, Pávai’s Favourite, with his playful Fairy Pie ice cream. In category “C” Ferenc Kádár from m-GEL Hungary Kft. won with his Biscuit on the Beach ice cream. In the gluten-free “C/M” category the gold medal went to Péter Benkő (Ireks-Stamag Kft., Komárom) for his creation Summer Melody. Zoltán Kiss, vice-president of the guild told: Hungarian ice cream making can only excel if it preserves its unique character and dares to experiment, while remaining true to its roots.
