The producer price of table wheat has decreased by 10 percent

According to the October forecast of the International Grains Council (IGC), the world can harvest 827 million tons of wheat in the 2025/2026 marketing year, 3 percent more than the previous season. The expected consumption is 820 million tons (+2 percent). 208 million tons (+5 percent) of the crop may be traded, and 275 million tons (+3 percent) of wheat may remain in storage by the end of the 2025/2026 marketing year.

According to the information provided by Stratégie Grains in October, farmers in the European Union can sow winter wheat on the same area as last year, 21.6 million hectares. At the EU level, the weather in late September and early October was favorable for sowing work. In France, wheat can be harvested from a 1 percent larger area (4.51 million hectares) in 2026/2027. In the 2018 season, on the other hand, the area in Germany may decrease by 1 percent (2.88 million hectares). In Romania, the crop may occupy 2.41 million hectares (+3 percent), in Poland 2.38 million hectares (–2 percent). Stratégie Grains analysts calculate an area that is 3 percent larger in Bulgaria (1.28 million hectares), while in Spain it is 2 percent smaller (1.74 million hectares). In Hungary, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (AM), winter wheat may be sown on 985.5 thousand hectares, of which farmers had finished sowing by October 28. According to AKI PÁIR data, table wheat was traded at an average producer price of 71.1 thousand forints/ton excluding VAT and transport costs in the fourth week of October. This price level was 10 percent lower than a year earlier. On the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME/CBOT), the December wheat settlement price ranged between $184 and $196 per ton between October 20 and 31. On the Paris Mercantile Exchange (Euronext/MATIF), the December settlement price for the crop fluctuated between €188 and €194 per ton.
