The European apple shortage only helps the Hungarian apple sector temporarily
Hungary is the seventh largest apple producer of the continent; The apple harvest has begun in mid-August and lasts until October. The harvesting is hampered by labor shortages.
Hungarian apples suffered slightly less drought and frost damage than the EU average, so the demand for Hungarian eating and industrial apples may grow abroad. The National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), however, draws attention to the fact that the present market demand and the expected higher producer prices this year not to mislead the producers: a significant development is needed in the plantation structure and technology to make the Hungarian apple competitive in Europe. The public body provides all the professional help to the apple producers.
