Márton Nagy: the government would introduce margin restrictions for stores selling household goods
The government may discuss on Wednesday and is expected to adopt on Thursday the proposal that would introduce a margin restriction in stores selling household goods from mid-May to early September, the Minister of National Economy announced in a video uploaded to his Facebook page on Tuesday.
He said that the measure would apply exclusively to drugstore chains, such as DM, Rossmann and Müller, which account for more than 40 percent of the household products market. The regulation does not apply to mixed commercial units where both food and non-food products are available.
The margin restriction would affect thousands of products in 30 different product categories, such as dishwashing detergents, washing powders, tissue papers and shower gels, he added.
According to Márton Nagy, these products have previously had margins exceeding 30 percent, and the measure could result in an average price reduction of 16-18 percent.
