NKFH: database launched on smaller packaging
Consumers can find out about products whose packaging has been reduced from an easily accessible, reliable and continuously updated source, from the database, the launch of which was announced by the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) in a statement sent to MTI on Thursday.
They are reminded that, according to a government decree, if a product is placed on the market in a new, smaller (weight or volume) packaging, the trader is obliged to display a warning notice in a form and content determined by the minister responsible for trade, clearly visible to customers, for two months.
In the case of production in Hungary, the manufacturer, in other cases the first person to place it on the market in Hungary, or the wholesaler, is obliged – upon the first sale of the product concerned – to inform the trader in writing about the reduction in packaging and the possible elimination of previous packaging. At the same time, they must also send a notification with the same content to the NKFH.
The packaging reduction database is available on the NKFH website (www.nkfh.gov.hu) and – as emphasized – supports transparency, making informed consumer decisions and the traceability of commercial practices.
