Róbert Zsigó: margin stop is necessary
Tuesday’s data also proves that the margin freeze is necessary – the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) said in a video message sent to MTI on Tuesday.
Róbert Zsigó said: the government introduced the margin reduction to protect families and pensioners from unjustified and excessive price increases.
He continued that since March 17, retail chains have not been allowed to add a margin of more than 10 percent to their products in 30 basic food categories.
Since the introduction of the margin freeze, the prices of 884 products have decreased by an average of 18.1 percent; the prices of 98 food items have decreased by at least 40 percent, and the prices of 21 food items have decreased by more than 50 percent.
“This also shows that retail chains previously made extra profits on basic food items. This is unacceptable”
– said Róbert Zsigó.
