Róbert Zsigó: Monday’s inspections already confirm that traders have started to reduce prices
The government is doing everything it can to ensure the financial security and protection of families and the elderly, and will not allow retail chains to take people’s money because they want extra profits for themselves – emphasized Róbert Zsigó, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM), in his TV2 program Mokka on Tuesday.
He emphasized that he would like to keep food prices under control in the long term and ensure that retail chains do not seek extra profits that are unaffordable to families.
The profit ceiling was introduced until May 31, they will review the experience and, if necessary, move further – he added.
He emphasized that the Economic Competition Authority and the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority have the option of imposing fines on those who violate the rule. In more serious cases, or in the event of repeated violations of the government decree on the profit ceiling, they must also expect the closure of stores.
Róbert Zsigó stated that they will not tolerate retail chains circumventing the regulation.
On Monday, sixty stores were inspected, and experience shows that food prices have started to decrease. Compliance with the regulation will be checked every day and everywhere, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Finance added.
