According to the latest data, with the margin reduction, drugstore products have become cheaper by an average of 26.6 percent and food by 19.6 percent compared to the prices at the beginning of the year, the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation said in a video statement uploaded to Facebook on Tuesday.

Róbert Zsigó said that prices were freed up at the beginning of the year because multinationals were profiting from extra profits, and previously, for example, they used a margin of more than 30 percent for dishwashing detergent, washing powder or shower gel.

The politician emphasized that families can clearly see when making a large purchase that they have to pay less for the same thing than before.

He gave several products as examples: the cheese he chose would cost 1,020 forints more per kilo without margin reduction, while milk would be 172 forints more expensive, flour 184 forints more expensive, cleaning agent 344 forints more expensive, shower gel 120 forints more expensive, shampoo 700 forints more expensive, and detergent 707 forints more expensive.

“So anyone can say anything. If cheese, milk, flour, shampoo, cleaning agent, detergent or even diapers are cheaper, that benefits families. It’s a shame to argue about that. We will continue to protect families and the elderly from unjustified price increases and price gougers,”

– said Róbert Zsigó in the video.
