Since 2010, the purchasing value of pensions has increased by 25 percent, their amount has doubled – the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation announced on Tuesday in the morning program of the M1 current affairs channel.

Róbert Zsigó said that previous left-wing governments took away the 13th month pension from the elderly, “they raised the cost of utilities to the sky, practically annihilated them”. He recalled that in 2010 the government agreed with the elderly that as long as there is a national government, the purchasing value of the pension would be preserved.

The Secretary of State emphasized that this promise has been kept ever since. He pointed out that this year, when inflation was higher than planned, a pension supplement was paid in November, and in December the elderly received the increased pension. He added that pensions will increase by 3.6 percent in 2026, and in February, in addition to the thirteenth monthly pension, the first weekly amount of the fourteenth month will also arrive.

“We have used all our opportunities and tools in the past 15 years to create security for the elderly”

– said Róbert Zsigó. He indicated that the elderly received food vouchers worth 30 thousand forints, and that the reduction in margins and the reduction in utility costs would also help pensioners.

The Secretary of State stated that the results achieved could be jeopardized because of the Tisza Party.

He said that in addition to taking away the thirteenth and fourteenth monthly pensions, the opposition would tax the allowance, abolish the state pension system and thus take away pension security.

People would not be sure whether they would receive and, if they did, how much pension, because it is would depend on the stock market and the profits of financial funds – pointed out Róbert Zsigó.

In Hungary, elderly people deserve all respect, they have worked their whole lives for the country, their families, their settlements, therefore the state has a duty to guarantee pension security

– stated the state secretary.

Róbert Zsigó on Kossuth Radio Good morning, Hungary! Speaking on the subject in his program, he said that the 2025 budget includes 7,200 billion forints and next year’s budget includes 7,700 billion forints for pensions and pension-like benefits.
