Green Tesco – investment in garden trading
Tesco PLC, Britain's biggest supermarket group, said it has offered to buy Dobbies Garden Centers PLC for about $305.7 million.
Tesco said it is hoping to cash in on the trend toward
"green" products like solar panels and compost bins. It plans to make
a nationwide brand of Scotland-based Dobbies, which has just 21 stores.
"The increasing popularity of gardening, and in
particular the trend towards environmentally friendly products, makes this an
attractive sector for Tesco to invest in," said Tesco Chief Executive
Officer Terry Leahy.
