Those vendors who sell strawberries from Spanish, Italian or other Mediterranean areas as domestic products deceive the consumers.  Anyone who meets a rip-off can report it to the National Food Chain Safety Office on the 06 80/263-244 toll-free phone number – can be read in the statement of the Rural Development Ministry.

In recent days, strawberries cultivated in Spain or Italy are marketed as Hungarian products, while domestic strawberries are grown under films and only available from the first half of May. So who buys Hungarian labeled strawberries nowadays, sure does not get domestic product.

Mártonffy Béla, President of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization and Marketing Board (FruitVeB) told Trade Magazine, that in the future, before the season of all major domestic vegetables and fruits, the organization will disclose all useful informations that will help the consumers. The FruitVeB considers it important that the Hungarian consumers to be familiar with the ripening time of the domestic products.
