Sometimes a pair of socks is more than just an accessory. For 31 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities has been helping children and their families who are hospitalized for long-term care stay together during their recovery. The foundation will also launch its national fundraising campaign in 2025. Gigi Radics, Dominik Szoboszlai and Dzsúdló are joining this year’s campaign, among others, to help spread the message: we can do a lot with a small gesture.
From October 15 to 29, or while supplies last, you can support the operation of Ronald Houses and the Debrecen Family Center by purchasing a pair of sports socks at any McDonald’s restaurant. In keeping with tradition, the entire net revenue from the sale of the socks, 1,000 forints per pair – the purchase price of which is 1,270 forints including VAT – will be donated by the restaurant chain to the Ronald McDonald Children’s Aid Foundation, which operates the Ronald Houses.
The foundation’s Ronald Houses in Budapest and Miskolc, as well as the Family Center in Debrecen, have so far provided accommodation free of charge to more than 15,000 families during the time between treatments away from home. In these cozy apartments and community spaces, parents can stay with their sick child and not have to worry about where they will sleep or how to manage their daily lives during this time.
Proximity provides security, which is why it is most important for us that family members can be present with sick children. Many parents tell us how much it means to them that they do not have to be far from each other during treatments, and that they can rest in a calm environment in the meantime after the fatigue of a hospital stay. This togetherness gives strength to recovery – which is why we are grateful for every small support that helps maintain and develop the Ronald Házak operation”
– said Zsuzsanna Répássy, the foundation’s executive director.
The funds raised in the 2025 campaign will be used to cover the foundation’s increased operating costs and develop services.
The fundraising socks can be purchased in three sizes (30-34, 36-39, 40-43) at any McDonald’s restaurant in the country while supplies last. The stocks of individual restaurants may vary. By purchasing a pair, anyone can contribute to helping sick children and families find strength and a home during this difficult time.
