The firewood program runs smoothly
The firewood program is running smoothly in the country, all forestry companies are working hard to meet the needs of the population, said the Minister of Agriculture at a press conference in Budapest on Monday.
At the same time, István Nagy indicated that the state forestry is exposed to a load that is higher than in a normal heating season. He also pointed out that individual forest farms are under different pressures. As an example, he mentioned that 30 percent of the Hungarian population lives in the area of Pilisi forestry, while the amount of wood that can be harvested is 5 percent of all forests. Therefore, they decided to reassign employees and machines to areas with different demands in order to increase the intensity of logging. The solidarity of the forest farms is indicated by the fact that, in addition to all this, they also help each other with official-priced firewood. The minister indicated that more than 23,500 cubic meters of wood set off at the end of last week and will arrive at various transshipment locations in the coming days, so that the pressure resulting from the different needs of the population can be smoothly met.
In order to meet the needs of the public as much as possible, they anticipate the needs of those who are only equipped with firewood, and this is the only way they can solve the heating problem.
The minister asked those who already have reserves of firewood to be patient, as extraction is continuous. Everyone will be guaranteed to receive their firewood at the official price, in the requested quantity – the minister declared. István Nagy also mentioned that negotiations were initiated with the leaders of the National Association of Private Forest Owners and Farmers (MEGOSZ) so that private forest farms also increase production. According to the minister, it would be a big help if they could serve the fire stations, since many people would like to buy “cooking” firewood, not raw firewood, and the latter can be done at the fire stations.
Gábor Reinitz, head of Pilis Parkerdő Zrt., said that the park forest manages 65,000 hectares in the area of the capital
This represents a stock of 11 million cubic meters of live wood, which increases by 270,000 cubic meters every year. Of this, 180,000-190,000 cubic meters of wood are produced annually, more than half of which is residential firewood. He emphasized that the service to the public at the Pilisi Park Forest is continuous, those who register their needs at the Park Forest will receive the tree according to the conditions of the program. He also drew attention to the fact that many people place their orders without heating with wood before, or even if they have heated with wood for a long time. The manager of the park forest asked everyone to check their heating equipment, think about whether the required amount of wood can fit in the given storage space, and whether they can provide suitable means of transport, because the customers have to transport the firewood home.
