The 10 Million Trees Foundation started its planting program in Zala in April
The 10 Million Trees Foundation started its planting program in April with 2,500 native tree seedlings planted in Bezeréd, Zala county.
According to the organization’s announcement sent to MTI, a forest strip consisting of indigenous species was created on the property of a young farmer couple, which helps both farming and environmental protection. Dániel Szecsődi and Eszter Lehoczki moved to the tiny sack village six years ago, where they graze native Carpathian badger cattle and keep goats, pigs and chickens in the open air on an area of five hectares, and since last year 12 hectares.
Native varieties also improve soil health
Balázs Bozzay, forestry technician, tree care engineer, one of the experts of the 10 Million Wood Foundation, said that native tree species and shrubs from domestic nurseries were also planted in Bezeréd, such as sessile oak and holm oak, field elm, wild pear, wild apple, quivering aspen, as well as scotch and hawthorn. and red-ringed catfish. He emphasized that afforestation simultaneously helps to reduce erosion, better retain falling precipitation, restore soil life, and restore habitats for animal and plant species and their associations. He added: together with the additional groups of trees to be planted later, this area will have a higher biodiversity and will be more resistant to increasingly extreme weather effects than intensively used pastures.
Forests are planted
The primary goal of the 10 Million Trees national community is to plant ten million trees in Hungary, involving as many people as possible in the program. The foundation’s community is currently present in almost 160 settlements, trees are planted in 50-60 locations every season, including in public areas, educational institutions, and social institutions. According to their information, in the near future they will plant a forest in Bátmonostor, next to Baja, and then in the fall they will continue the work at several locations, including the expansion of the wooded pasture in Zala.
