WWF: Hungary has already reached the day of overconsumption
As the organization stressed in a statement on Tuesday, the resources of our Earth are finite, and since 1970 we have been consuming less and less of our resources for one year in less and less time. This level of consumption means that the planet’s resources and wildlife cannot regenerate at the rate at which we deplete them.
This year, World Overconsumption Day – the day our Earth’s annual resources are depleted – falls on July 29, meaning we “applaud” a one-year quantity in just over half a year. Although due to the pandemic in 2020, that date fell to the second half of August, as this year’s date shows, we have failed to reverse the trend on a lasting basis and we are still pursuing an incredibly wasteful lifestyle, the communication to MTI points out.
